I was born Clarence Marshall,
In the hills of Tennessee,
After the great depression,
It was a small mining town,
My father was a miner,
My mother stayed at home,
My father wasn't faithful,
And my mother died alone,
It was clear at midnight,
When I came to the church house door,
That a life of crime wasn't any way to die,
Some folks fall in line,
Others turn away,
I was born alone and I died just the same,
But I didn't want to be a miner,
Or die in a mining town,
I moved to the city,
To those city lights,
I never saw my folks,
Never went back home,
They say strangers like me,
Were supposed to die alone,
It was clear at midnight,
When I came to the church house door,
That a life of crime wasn't any way to die,
Some folks fall in line,
Others turn away,
I was born alone and I died just the same,
Those men that I killed,
Were only mile markers to me,
A lost highway of sorts,
Of lost thoughts and dreams,
I Clarence Marshall died,
On those lonely church house steps,
Maybe there's mercy in death,
But hell is a safer bet,
It was clear at midnight,
When I came to the church house door,
That a life of crime wasn't any way to die,
Some folks fall in line,
Others turn away,
I was born alone and I died just the same,
I was born in 1934,
And I died in 56,
I still miss my ma,
The hills of Tennessee,
I was buried with my flask,
My gun and my memories,
If there's one thing I could say to her,
I would say I'm sorry,
It was clear at midnight,
When I came to the church house door,
That a life of crime wasn't any way to die,
Some folks fall in line,
Others turn away,
I was born alone and I died just the same,

Morning Stars
03:38
|
|||
So the day left us and you are alone,
Do you feel my embrace beyond these naive dreams?
In a world where hearts are never broken,
Love is spoken,
Not ever so silently then by our smiles,
I ran so far from the things I couldn't face,
From a past I wouldn't forgive,
To be so free and so young,
So these morning stars are here to stay,
Like a love that will make it through,
So these scars won't ever go away,
Against the sky so blue,
But in these morning stars...I will always see you,
Out on the horizon,
As you dream away,
You're lost in the tide,
Like a never-ending day,
Please say you still believe in love,
Please say you still believe in us,
If this ever ends,
I know never in my life,
Will this happen again,
Because our love will be whispered,
Amongst the faceless lovers till the end of time,
So these morning stars,
Are here to stay,
Like a love that will make it through,
So these scars won't ever go away,
But in these morning stars...I will always see you,
Sing,
Sing to me,

Illusions
06:48
|
|||
The sun broke the sky & I dreamed we were all right..
What sweet confusion,
Time is what we need but we will never be all right..
What a cruel illusion,
In my dreams at the bottom of the sea,
Paradise is lost if you want it to be,
Lost & lonely thinking of you,
Is a dream a lie if it leaves you blue?
Blue were the waves that buried you,
Time will pass but I’ll never forget you,
The sun broke the sky & I dreamed we were all right..
What sweet confusion,
Time is what we need but we will never be all right..
What a cruel illusion,
The air we breathe,
What breaks the heart?
I see changes and everything falls apart,
We live in the haze of smog filled sky,
The progress of man is teaching us nothing but lies,
Only a myth so they say,
But I’ve never seen God but still we pray,
